Wellsburg's Central Park Christmas display vandalized again

Overnight, two of the nativity animals and spotlights were stolen.

Wellsburg’s Central Park Christmas display, dawned with lights, carolers, gingerbread men and more, is shaping up to look festive for the holiday.

The newest addition to this Christmas display this year is a full nativity scene

"We raised $4,500 for the nativity scene this year in 3 days, so I want to commend those who stepped up and helped me get the money raised," organizer Paul Billiard said.

But things aren’t all holly and jolly. For the 4th year in a row, organizer Paul Billiard said they’re being robbed and vandalized.

"We have vandals, and I just wish they had something better to do," he said.

Overnight, two of the nativity animals and spotlights were stolen.

One of the animals has been returned, thanks to the Wellsburg Police Department, but the chicken is still on the loose.

"I just wish that whoever took it, whether it was a joke or just in fun, bring it back because it took a lot of money and a lot of effort to get these things," Billiard said.

But despite the unfortunate events, some more positives are hiding among the additions.

"The snowman and Santa’s cutouts that really were brought back to life and were donated to us by a fellow who passed away," Billiard said.

A tribute to him is written on the back as a thank you to him and his wife.

And the park has one last surprise

"This year, Wellsburg is hosting a light up night at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13. Hot chocolate is included.
