Weather causes power outages in Ohio, Marshall counties

The winter weather has made an impact not only on road conditions, it has also caused some residents to lose power.

The day began with ice, then snow, then rain, then ice.

Police and emergency management say there were no major accidents to report, but warn drivers to be careful.

There have been some downed power lines because of the heavy ice pellets sticking, with American Electric Power saying around 3,000 people in Ohio County losing power at one point Tuesday. There were also some outages in Marshall County, but that was a smaller percentage.

Still, Sand Hill Elementary will be closed Thursday because power is not expected to be restored in that area until Thursday evening.

They have crews working on the outages, but if you want to know more specifically about your neighborhood, click here.

They also have an app or you can sign up for mobile alerts.

If you don't have internet access, they are assessing the damage now from the ice and right now. No long term outages are reported.
