UPDATE: Search continues for suspects after officer shot in Tuscarawas County

UPDATED STORY: Newcomerstown police officer admits to shooting self, making up story

The search for two men who were involved in an officer shooting on Tuesday morning continues.

Around 10:15, officials say Newcomerstown Police Officer Bryan Eubanks initiated a traffic stop for a mobile meth lab and was shot once in the arm, spawning a massive manhunt.

He's out of the hospital and doing OK, and police are looking for two men.

Newcomerstown Police Chief Gary Holland said during the traffic stop, the passenger reached across behind the driver with a gun and fired two rounds at Eubanks.

Police did have two people of interest earlier Tuesday, but they have been eliminated as suspects.

Holland has more on the two men they are looking for:

“Caucasians, with tattoos along the neck, which was the shooter,” he said. “Short hair, brown, red shirt, black Geo Tracker, hard top, 2 doors with black painted wheels," he said. “Even in small towns like Newcomerstown, you can never underestimate what an officer is going to deal with on a daily basis.”

Holland says multiple sheriff’s departments, the FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency are involved in the search.
