Thanks given to first responders

As the opioid epidemic continues to hit the area hard, first responders have played a huge role in helping those affected.

On Tuesday afternoon, a local organization decided to thank them.

The Jefferson County Prevention and Recovery Board spent the day delivering cookies to a handful of area police and fire departments.

It's part of a state-wide effort to recognize first responders who combat the opioid epidemic.

And each side is very grateful for the other.

“They are the true stars of the show,” said Dan Obertance, associate director, Jefferson County Prevention and Recovery Board. “The people that are out there working with the people and being with them when they're in the throes of an episode. We're very proud of them and we're so happy to have them."

Appreciation week for first responders continues.
