Deceased suspect named in Ohio courthouse shooting
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio (WTOV) - Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin announced Monday afternoon during a news conference that Nathaniel Richmond was the man who "ambushed" a Jefferson County judge on Monday morning.
Richmond was ultimately shot and killed around 8 a.m. outside the Jefferson County Courthouse.
Judge Joseph Bruzzese was shot during the incident. He is in stable condition in a Pittsburgh-area hospital and is expected to survive.
Richmond is the father of Ma’lik Richmond, a former Steubenville Big Red football player who was found delinquent in a 2012 rape case.
Officials don’t believe the cases are related. A special prosecutor and a visiting judge were brought in for that case. Bruzzese had nothing to do with it.
“There’s absolutely no reason to believe there’s any connection whatsoever between Ma’lik Richmond and the actions of his father today,” Hanlin said.
Investigators have not released the name of a second suspect arrested in the incident.
