Schramm sworn in as trustee on Eastern Ohio Regional Wastewater Authority

The Eastern Ohio Regional Wastewater Authority welcomed a new member on Wednesday.

Jim Schramm was sworn by Judge Frank Fregiato as a trustee on the wastewater authority, filling a vacancy.

Schramm was nominated by Martins Ferry Mayor Bob Krajnyak.

"I think he'll be a good person to be on the board,” Krajnyak said. “One of the reasons is he has the time to do it. Since he’s retired, he can make all the meetings, and if they have special things going on throughout the day, he can be there for that.”

The authority treats waste for 14,000 residents in the communities of Bellaire, Bridgeport, Brookside and Martins Ferry, along with other county residents through agreements with the Belmont County Sewer Authority.

On Wednesday, Krajnyak also commented on the authority's ongoing projects.

"The EPA mandated things that we have to separate the storm sewer water from the wastewater, which is something pretty much every community has to do,” Krajnyak said. “Hopefully there’s enough government funding. Our president is talking about cutting EPA, but the cities and communities are going to need help doing that. It's going to be a massive project."
