UPDATE: Road re-opens after utility pole is removed

Traffic is moving through now one lane at a time.

Traffic is moving through now one lane at a time, and the pole has been removed.

According to officials, a vehicle hit a utility pole early Wednesday morning on the 800 block of Lincoln Avenue in Steubenville.

The driver is unknown and reportedly drove away from the scene, leaving only their bumper behind.

The road is currently blocked off to both vehicles and pedestrians as live wires are down in the area.

Police are redirecting traffic onto Prospect Avenue and Merryman Avenue.

AEP officials say that the pole is over 70 feet tall and several wires are attached to the pole which is complicating repair efforts.

Two-hundred, ninety-one customers are without power, AEP officials say power will not be restored until later Wednesday.
