Participants gather for 2018 Ohio Valley Sport Stacking Tournament
OHIO COUNTY, W. Va. —
The best cup stackers in the Ohio Valley aimed to set world records Saturday afternoon at Woodsdale Elementary School.
The 2018 Ohio Valley Sport Stacking Tournament featured 82 competitive cup stackers of all ages from nine states.
Over the past six years, three world records and multiple state records have been set at the Woodsdale Elementary Tournament.
The school runs an afterschool program where they teach students to race plastic cups in a sequenceable way.
“This is just a unique program. It's just something here at Woodsdale that we do,” said Woodsdale Elementary Physical Education Teacher Michael Cook. “It's a program that has grown over the last few days. As you can see, this is the largest house we've had and the largest tournament we've had.”
This competition is an area qualifier for the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics that will take place in Illinois later this year.
