OVI arrests up for OSHP Wintersville Post

Officials with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Wintersville Post saw an increase in arrests because of driving under the influence.

An enforcement effort ran from 6 p.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Sunday and during that time frame, 12 drivers were arrested for OVI -- a big jump from last year.

Last year, St. Patrick's Day fell on a Thursday and there were two arrests for OVI.

The OSHP is already gearing up for the next big holiday, Memorial Day.

“It's gonna be the kick off to the summer season, so we're gonna be gearing up for that,” said Lt. Joseph Fetty. “In the meantime, we still have all of April and May. We're also gonna be looking into getting a sobriety check point within the next 2 months as well."

Federal hours will be posted throughout the next few weekends, which means extra patrols on the roads.
