Ohio Valley Health Center preparing for move downtown

The Ohio Valley Health Center's expansion project is well underway in downtown Steubenville.

The Ohio Valley Health Center's expansion project is well underway in downtown Steubenville.

Crews recently finished replacing the roof on a new location that is expected to open in December 2018 or early 2019.

Phase two of the project began this week.

Since 2014, the center has been housed in Trinity Health System's east building.

“We have already had people come and knock on the door to try and get healthcare even before we are ready to let them in, so we know this is going to be a great move for the health center, as well as for the people who live in downtown,” said Trudy Wilson, executive director.

The new center is located on South Street in what used to be a daycare and pre-school.

Most of the inside needs to be gutted to transform it into a healthcare center.

The facility will have an administrative wing and a community charitable pharmacy to serve all community members -- not just the center's patients -- and additional exam rooms.

“We are in a two-exam room facility right now, so when we have more than one provider -- nurse practitioner or doctor -- they have to share two rooms to see patients, and here will be expanding to have six exam rooms,” Wilson said.

Officials with the center says they are extremely appreciative of the community's support in bringing the center back downtown.

“We've almost met our capital campaign goal for renovations, and we'd like to encourage anyone else in the community who would like to give even $10 to our capital expansion project to do so,” Wilson said.
