Nailers coach Gove taking personal leave of absence

Assistant Coach Jeff Christian will lead the Nailers in the interim, stepping in as the team takes on the Reading Royals on Friday and Saturday at home (WTOV9).

Wheeling Nailers head coach David Gove is taking a personal leave of absence as the team heads into the second round of the Kelly Cup playoffs, it was announced Thursday.

Assistant Coach Jeff Christian will lead the Nailers in the interim, stepping in as the team takes on the Reading Royals on Friday and Monday at home.

Nailers Governor Don Rigby said he couldn't comment much on coach Gove's leave, but says the team is hopeful this won't affect postseason play.

"It's not what we expected and personal leaves never are," Rigby said. "It's our third coach this year. It's different, but this is a focused group with veteran leadership and we feel confident we can move forward."

Rigby says Gove is still part of the team and didn't give an indication as to when he would return.
