Moundsville Police discuss giving old cruisers to McMechen Police
MARSHALL COUNTY, W. Va. —
Moundsville officials are reaching out to offer a kind gesture to McMechen Police Department.
At Tuesday night's council meeting, Moundsville Police Chief Tom Mitchell approached council about McMechen Police Department receiving Moundsville’s old cruisers.
Normally, police departments auction off their old cars. Mitchell said McMechen is in need of cruisers after some mechanical trouble. While they cannot simply give the cars away, council voted to sell them to McMechen for $200 per car.
"I spoke with the Chief of Police in McMechen, and they are in dire need of police cars, because they had a couple of cars and the motors blew up and things like that,” said Moundsville Police Chief Tom Mitchell. “I talked to the city manager about the possibility of, instead of auctioning them off to the public, figuring out some way that McMechen could have those cars."
Also Tuesday night, council entered into an agreement with an engineer to assess the condition of the existing police building, in need of renovations.
