Man pleads guilty in ginseng harvesting case

John McMonagle was accused of stealing ginseng from older neighbors last August and September.

A Jefferson County man accused of theft and harvesting ginseng was in court on Wednesday morning.

John McMonagle was accused of stealing ginseng from older neighbors last August and September.

McMonagle pleaded guilty to the two misdemeanor counts.

He was sentenced to 7 months in jail and a $1,400 fine, but that will be suspended pending the completion of a community control program.

He was also ordered to stay away from ginseng.
