Man beaten, left in the street

Wheeling police are investigating after a man was beaten and left on a street in South Wheeling.

Detectives are trying to find the person or persons responsible. A witness saw what was happening--at least one man beating another Sunday night just before 11 p.m. He called police, but the suspect took off.

“It appears he was bleeding from his head and had other cuts and injuries on his body,” said Philip Stahl, public information officer.

It happened near the 4400 hundred block of Jacob Street. Stahl says the men may have left a nearby bar.

“Another man in that area saw one or two people jump the guy and when he ran to get help and came back, the men were gone,” Stahl said.

The victim was taken to a Wheeling hospital with head injuries and Stahl says right now he can't remember what happened. However, police are still interviewing possible witnesses and others that were in the area.

Stahl says the victim is now conscious and recovering.
