Major Frontier outage affects many Ohio Valley customers

According to Lauttamus Communications and Security, Frontier Communications has been experiencing a major network outage for the past 24 hours affecting a large portion of the Ohio Valley.

Customers in Wheeling, West Liberty, Wellsburg, Follansbee, Weirton, Chester, and New Cumberland could be experiencing issues with their network connectivity due to a fiber optic cable being down in West Liberty.

Technicians had to stop working on the cable yesterday afternoon due to safety concerns, and resumed work this morning.

Lauttamus Information Technology Director Cory Wilkerson said in a statement that this outage could have an impact on people calling for help in emergencies.

We contacted both the Brooke and Hancock County dispatch, and dispatchers said phones were down completely yesterday, but today the connection is hit-or-miss.

We are working to get in contact with Frontier directly to find out more about this issue, including an estimated service restoration time.
