Jefferson County Board of Elections completing post-election audit

The Jefferson County Board of Elections worked to complete the post-election audit on Wednesday.

The Jefferson County Board of Elections worked to complete the post-election audit on Wednesday.

The state mandates that the board hand counts five percent of the total ballots.

For Jefferson County, that's 1,500 ballots from randomly selected polling locations.

The process is required after every federal election.

“It's to make sure that all the totals that we got for the official canvas are accurate per a hand count. You hand count those precincts, or polling locations, and compare them to the official results,” said Diane Gribble, director, Jefferson County Board of Elections.

Officials say this is a very important process to assure that everything is being handled properly during elections.
