Sunday, May 20th 2018 —
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, a two-vehicle accident just before 7:30 Saturday evening was caused by an impaired driver. Police say the driver of a Jeep attempted to pass a truck carrying a camper on Interstate 70 Westbound near the rest area in Belmont County. The Jeep swerved and struck the truck, crashing both.
The accident shut down Interstate 70 Westbound while the crash was cleaned up, backing up traffic. OSHP and Belmont County Sheriff's Department responded, along with EMS and fire departments from Bethesda, Morristown and Belmont.
The highway was reopened shortly before nine o'clock Saturday night.
The driver of the Jeep is charged with an OVI offense and failure to control. The condition of those involved has not been released.
