Firefighters battle early morning structure fires

Officials say they got the call around 12:40 a.m. for the fires in the 2200 block of Belmont Street.

Firefighters had to battle the cold temperatures as well as two house fires overnight in Bellaire.

Officials say the fire sparked around 12:40 a.m., in the 2200 block of Belmont Street.

The fire from the first house started to catch the house next door, but crews were quickly able to contain it.

Firefighters had some problems with fire hydrants freezing and had to use flares to melt the ice around the hoses.

“I was walking up the alley and come to the front street, I came around, and I didn't notice it at first. But smoke was pouring out the top, and I had to give it a second look because it looked like something out of a movie. Then I get to looking, and boom! It's up in flames. Flames were pouring out the roof. Next thing you know, the firetrucks are coming. And they did their jobs and got it put out,” Bellaire resident Brandon Hackathorn said.

The condemned home is a total loss.
