EGCC holds groundbreaking for new Student Success Center

At Eastern Gateway Community College, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Student Success Center was held Tuesday.

It may have been dreary outside, but the future is looking bright at Eastern Gateway Community College, where a ground-breaking ceremony for a new Student Success Center was held Tuesday.

The $1.8 million renovation project will improve the access to students. It will feature wireless internet, a Barnes & Noble Book Store, and a brand new entrance.

"Front entrance to the college that will have everything from admissions, advising, career assist, tutoring, so the students can come in and do everything they need to do in one location," said Dr. Jimmie Bruce, president, EGCC.

"The first look will be state-of-the-art, modern facility it represents change and I’m hoping it will attract students."

Many dignitaries were on hand for the ground breaking, including Ohio Senator Frank Hoagland and State Representative Jack Cera.

"It’s a much-needed improvement, the first real improvement to the college since it started, and it’s real needed for a different era where kids and adults learn different," Cera said.

"Community colleges play such an important role in our area. It’s affordable college, and its good for people looking to retrain, and they get a vast variety of students."

Construction will begin during the spring.
