Edison Local officials hopeful for future following renewal levy passage
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —
Voters in the Edison Local School District approved a five year 5.9 mill renewal levy Tuesday.
The district often struggles at the polls, but the winning margin was 61 to 39 percent.
Superintendent Bill Beattie said the levy helps operate the district with the potential loss of revenue from First Energy's Stratton Power Plant.
"In our campaign, our campaign promise was that if and when this levy passed, our focus was going to move to the elementary schools,” Beattie said. “We've done a lot of work at Edison High School during the last three-year period. We're pretty much done there, our focus starting hopefully in the summer of 2020 is going to be starting to renovate both John Gregg and Stanton.”
