Columbiana County Sheriff's Office holding Holiday Toy Drive

The Columbiana County Sheriff's Office needs your help with its annual Holiday Toy Drive.

The gifts will go to the Akron Children's Hospital on Dec. 15.

The campaign was started by Deputy Jon Price, who wanted to give back to the organization that has helped him and his family in many ways. His son, who is blind and has cerebral palsy, stayed at that hospital, so Price wanted to give back to a place that has had a huge impact on his family.

"When I got hired at the sheriff's office in 2010, I pitched an idea to the Sheriff about trying to do a toy drive to give back," Price said.

Officials with the sheriff's office started collecting toys in November, but they are in need of one last push to collect as many gifts as they can. They're looking for unwrapped gifts for boys or girls of any age. They are also accepting monetary donations to buy gift cards for the Ronald McDonald House of Akron.

"Sometimes their families have to work, or sometimes they aren't so lucky to have such great families that are able to be there with them, so this at least gives them something because these kids they may not even make it out of the hospital," Price said.

"We're trying to make some merry Christmas's' for the children of the hospital so they are able to enjoy it like the other families are," Chief Deputy Kip Dowling said.

The last day to donate is Dec. 14.

If you would like to donate, you can bring your unwrapped presents to the Civil Office: 105 South Market Street in Lisbon from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday.

You can also go to the Criminal Division Office at 8473 County Home Road in Lisbon 24/7.
