Longtime Wheeling business Chris Miller Furniture store will soon close.

Longtime Wheeling business Chris Miller Furniture store will soon close.

Chris Miller passed away in 2011 and now his wife, Judy, is retiring, a year after stepping away from day-to-day operations.

Chris and Judy opened the store in 1988 after Chris had worked at Reichart Furniture for 20 years, learning every aspect of the business.

The store never left 1122 Market Street, Wheeling during its entire run.

Christian Miller, their son, joined the family business in 1990 and worked his way up to vice president.

Judy Miller released the following statement on Wednesday:

“As I approach my 75th year, I find myself looking eagerly ahead to the next chapter of my life. It is with great excitement and of course a little sadness that I announce the closing of Chris Miller Furniture. Spending quality time with my family is a high priority, as well as taking time for the community projects I hold dear.

“My future will be a time of reflection and relaxation, as well as devoting time and attention to my family and to our community. I want to thank all the wonderful people of the Ohio valley and my employees, who have supported me throughout these many years. What Chris and I built over the years served us well, but it is the friendships and the forty years of memories that I will cherish forever.”

After an official announcement, they will liquidate their entire stock of furniture.

The building on Market Street is now for sale.
