Brooke High officials release statement on alleged incident
Brooke County Schools Superintendent Toni Shute released a statement on Thursday:
The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate an alleged incident that occurred at Brooke High School on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The reported incident was that a male student had threatened to bring a gun to school and had a hit list. The incident was immediately investigated by the school resource officer and principal at Brooke High School.
It was found that there had never been a threat from the male student to bring a gun to school nor was there a hit list.
The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department is currently working on the investigation, which includes reviewing statements, interviews, social media posts and video.
There are currently no charges anticipated on the male student. All additional findings will be reported to the Brooke County Prosecutor’s Office to be reviewed for any charges against any others involved.
It is important to understand that when dealing with school incidents and juveniles, there is very limited information that can be released because of laws that protect the release of certain information and to protect juvenile rights.
