Commissioners are dispersing funds for a road expansion project in Brooke County.

The Route 2 and I-68 Authority received a grant Thursday from Brooke County commissioners. The grant is for $1,500.

The authority ultimately wants to expand Route 2 into four lanes from Parkersburg to Chester to improve traffic efficiency. They also hope to extend Interstate 68 toward the Ohio Valley.

It will be a long process, but the authority is happy to receive aid and recognition.

“We're really happy the counties are getting behind us. They realize what an important thing this highway can be to us. We definitely need some work done on Route 2 as well as hopefully someday getting I-68 into the Ohio Valley,” said Charles Clements, Route 2/I68 Authority executive director.

The authority has requested $3,000 from each county involved in the project.

The authority will meet next on December 5 at the Wetzel County hospital at 6 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
