Belmont County Democrats meet in St. Clairsville

Democrats from throughout the county came together for a committee meeting Monday night.

Belmont County Democratic Committee Leader Phil Wallace responded to comments made last week by State Representative Bill Johnson, concerning unemployment numbers in the county.

Johnson said the unemployment numbers have gone down since 2011, but Wallace said he disagrees on the origin of those numbers.

"That 11 percent was a carryover from the Bush administration during the recession. It carried into the Democratic presidency. Since Obama was president, it's gone down to 6.1,” Wallace said.

Monday night’s Democratic committee meeting featured several candidates in the upcoming election, including Secretary of State candidate for Ohio Kathleen Clyde.
