A Belmont County Corrections officer was escorted off the Belmont Correctional Institution's campus and is facing charges.

As 58-year-old Alfred Horvath was leaving his shift this morning, he was arrested and later charged with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Specifically, oxycodone and suboxone.

Based off the indictment, Horvath received cash and other forms of payment from at least one inmate for the drugs.

This alleged exchange had been happening since March of 2015.

Horvath made his initial appearance in court in Columbus earlier Tuesday afternoon. He was released with conditions, essentially meaning he can't travel.

The next step will be for a federal judge to schedule an arraignment. A date has not yet been set.
