Amber Alert canceled, child found safe
The Amber Alert that was issued for a missing child out of Ohio County has been canceled.
Officials with the Wheeling Police Department said the child has been found safe in Marshall County.
Officials say at approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday evening, family members of the estranged ex-wife of Zachary Steele used an axe to break into the residence of Zachary Steele and remove 6-year-old Akexton Steele.
A confrontation ensued and the father, Zachary, was threatened with a knife. The child was then loaded into a maroon colored 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 with West Virginia registration 3EX990.
After searching addresses associated with the suspects in the Moundsville area with no luck -- the West Virginia State Police issued with the Amber Alert. Shortly after the Alert was issued, Moundsville police located one of the suspects, and the others turned themselves in.
"I'm glad the child is well, but I'm not happy about what the child had to experience last night," said Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwerferger. "These charges are warranted ,and we will pursue them vigorously."
The boy's maternal grandparents and uncle were arrested.
Valerie Hall, Val Winer, Sr., and Val Winer, Jr. are all facing charges of abduction, burglary, and conspiracy.
The child's mother, Brecca Steele, is also facing one conspiracy charge.
