The Ohio Valley's 8th annual Rib and Chicken Cookoff is underway at Heritage Port.

The Ohio Valley's 8th annual Rib and Chicken Cookoff is underway at Heritage Port.

The event is being held Friday and Saturday, late into the evening.

Organizers say it's a chance for the public to sample the best barbecue in the Tri-State Area.

There is also plenty of entertainment on stage all weekend.

Carenbauers Distributing is the main sponsor for the festival.

"Bill Brooks, who initiated this a couple years ago, came to us for help, and anything to help,” Car Carenbauer said. “Especially at the waterfront. We like to be involved in the community. Not just this one, but there are several others.”

"We have a great smoke chicken pasta with a white sauce you won't find anywhere else,” said Mary Clark-Otey, a Wheeling vendor. “Ribs, brisket with a blueberry bourbon glaze on it.”

Otey's has just started selling ribs and other barbecue around the friendly city.

Last year's winner was from Zanesville, a restaurant called "Grillin' Dave-Style."

Awards will be given out on Saturday.
