3K run will be held Saturday, beginning at Starvaggi Park

A new event is coming to Weirton on Saturday.

It's a 3K run that starts at Starvaggi Park.

They call it the ‘Chromatic Challenge’ because colored powder is tossed at participants.

The race kicks off the summer pool season, since the pool at Starvaggi Park opens that day.

After the race, there will be free hot dogs, face painting, music and more.

“We wanted something different, something unique to the area, something to kick off the summer, something to have a fun event for families,” said Chris Krishak, program director, Weirton Board of Parks and Rec. “This is a non-competitive race, so there will be no awards with it. It's more of a fun family event atmosphere to come out and have some fun.”

Participants will also receive a free one-day pool pass to be used any time throughout the summer.

Registration is at 8:30.

And the run starts at 9:30.

It costs $20 for adults and $10 for kids.

Runners who haven't pre-registered by now are asked to wear a white shirt.
