Toughman Contest returns to WesBanco Arena

A big event returns to Wheeling this weekend. The 38th annual Budweiser West Virginia Toughman Contest at WesBanco Arena.

This afternoon, crews were busy setting up the ring for Friday and Saturday night's action. The contest features 182 entrants this year.

A couple of changes are in place. Fighters will no longer wear head gear per national rule changes and fighters can win up to three championships, which has allowed some past champs to enter again.

“It is professionally produced,” said Denny Magruder, executive director for WesBanco Arena and Capitol Theatre. “Everything about this show is 100 percent real. So come out and see it, have a great time and enjoy what's going on. We just got over the flood threats of the last two weeks so come out and celebrate on the riverfront.”

The Toughman Contest takes place Friday and Saturday.

Doors open at 6:30. The fights begin at 7:30 each night.

Tickets are on sale at the WesBanco Arena box office or on their website.
