Area student to run track at Air Force Academy

One area student-athlete has made her plans official to join one of the nation's service academies and its Division one track and field program.

Indian Creek senior Madison Smith has signed on to the Air Force Academy and compete on the women's track and field squad. Congressman Bill Johnson was on hand at her signing Monday after he issued a nomination for her appointment to the academy.

Smith called it a "wonderful opportunity."

Smith is off to a strong start this season in a number of events. She was the OVAC overall 400 meter champ last season, advancing to the state meet in that event and anchored Creek's 4 x 4 to a 7th place finish at state last year.
