CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Ohio Valley was well represented when the West Virginia University baseball team opened its season Friday against the eighth-ranked Louisville Cardinals.

Magnolia’s Justin Fox and Madonna’s Max Nogay were both in Coach Randy Mazey’s starting lineup.

Fox, a former WTOV9 Belmont Savings Bank High School Football Player of the Year, was batting ninth while playing third base. Nogay, a finalist for the WTOV9 Belmont Savings Bank High School Football Player of the Year, was batting eighth as the club’s designated hitter.

Fox, a junior, played in 28 games with 14 starts, batting .232 with five runs and seven RBIs last season.

Nogay, also a junior, appeared in 20 games last season making eight starts at catcher.

The Mountaineers are coming off a season in which they went 33-26 overall and finished third in the Big 12.

Louisville was a unanimous pick to win the American Athletic Conference after going to the College World Series last season.
