5.4.14 - VIDEO - ECHL Suspends Jean For Hit On Manderson

Updated: Monday, May 5 2014, 10:54 PM EDT

The ECHL has fined and suspended Greenville's Kyle Jean three games for his hit on Wheeling's Denver Manderson in the second period of Sunday's playoff game in Wheeling.

Jean was not penalized on the play and actually scored the game-tying goal in the third period in the Road Warriors 4-3 overtime victory.

Manderson, meanwhile, left the game and did not return. He also did not make the trip to Greenville for the upcoming playoff games.  Game three is Tuesday night.

The Nailers trail the best -of -seven series 2-0.

Below is the statement from the ECHL regarding the suspension and fine.

The ECHL on Monday announced that Greenville’s Kyle Jean has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in ECHL Playoff Game #J-2, Greenville at Wheeling, on May 4.

Jean is fined and suspended under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline as a result of an illegal check to the head during the second period of the game.

Jean will miss Greenville’s playoff games against Wheeling on May 6, May 8 and May 9 (if necessary). If Game 5 is not necessary, Jean will miss Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
