WVU Medicine, Reynolds Memorial open new cancer center

WVU Medicine and Reynolds Memorial have opened a new cancer center.

WVU Medicine and Reynolds Memorial have opened a new cancer center.

Leaders say it will provide first-class treatment -- the same great care that you can get in Morgantown.

"It's a huge deal for the residents of Marshall County,” said Dr. David Hess, CEO, WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital. “When you're talking cancer care you want it to be as close to home as possible.”

A large crowd gathered, including hospital workers, state and local leaders and even patients for the opening.

Albert Wright, the CEO of WVU Health Systems, says they had to get creative because West Virginia is such a rural state to make sure everyone can get what he calls "world-class care."

"We have these cancer institute spokes in Fairmont, Elkins, Martinsburg and Parkersburg, and our goal is to create and integrated care model so wherever you are -- if you are at a WVU facility -- the care is the same," Wright said.

If you want to see one of WVU's doctors, you simply have to call and make an appointment, and you'll be entered into their system.

Doctors will see their first patients on Nov. 27.
