Wheeling police looking for attempted robbery suspect

Police say a man walked into the Marathon gas station on National Road in Woodsdale with a knife and started making threats.

Wheeling police are asking for the public's help after an attempted robbery on Wednesday morning.

Police say a man walked into the Marathon gas station on National Road in Woodsdale around 5 a.m. with a knife and started making threats.

Nothing was taken, and the clerk was not injured.

"He said, 'give me your money,' and she said, 'no i'm not giving you the money,' and he fled in the direction of Leatherwood Lane," said Philip Stahl, Wheeling Police Department public information officer. "That's really all the info we have to go on right now, and we are working to get surveillance video."

The would-be robber is described as a white man with a thin build between 5-foot-6 and 5-8, in his late 30s or early 40s.

At the time of the crime, he was wearing blue jeans and a tan Carhartt jacket.
