What’s going on with the proposed broadband upgrades across Belmont County?

Residents in rural lying areas of Belmont County are about to get caught up to speed with broadband internet access.

Residents in rural lying areas of Belmont County are about to get caught up to speed with broadband internet access.

A partnership between county officials and Agile Networks was announced a few months ago.

A number of anxious, service-deprived county residents are wondering just what the status of that partnership is.

Agile Networks is working with a number of local agencies in an effort to compile information on the forgotten areas of the county.

"The company's made good progress over the last 5, 6 weeks relative to investigating where we may need the best internet service," Thomas said.

The broadband data provider will utilize the county's water towers, grain silos, communication towers and any other vertical assets to increase availability of high speed internet services to the residents and businesses within the county.

"I think they're going to be in the county this week to continue their efforts, and I think probably in the first quarter of 2017, they'll have a decision as to what towers they're going to use, what county towers, and then determine pricing points, start contacting residents and what have you,” Thomas said. “In the end, I think it's going to be a very positive thing for the county, but more importantly for our residents."

And don't forget to email Agile Networks at email at belmont@agilenetworks.com if you're having problems with broadband access.
