A productive town hall took place in Weirton Wednesday as the city works on its vision with a new comprehensive plan.

Transportation, jobs, recreation and housing are just a few areas of focus for the future of Weirton according to residents who attended the town hall at the Millsop Community Center.

The city is working with a team of planning consultants out of Pittsburgh on the 10-year plan. They're about five months into the year-long process. City leaders were thrilled with Wednesday’s turnout and participation.

“With the whole change of our personality of this city, from steel industry to a smaller community, we need to have this plan to move forward,” said Mayor Harold Miller. “It's also instrumental in any grants we may have. You have to have an updated comprehensive plan.”

“I really believe the people want to be involved and there's a lot of good ideas and I think people finally want to see things develop and get more done here in Weirton,” said Chris Connell, Weirton resident.

There will be three more public input meetings on the comprehensive plan. We'll be sure to pass that information along once dates have been set.
