State-qualifying athletes given special escort from Bishop Donahue

Bishop Donahue's track team was given a special escort out of McMechen as they travel for the state track and field championship.

The meet will be held in Charleston on Friday and Saturday. This will be the last state championship that Bishop Donahue will be a part of because the school is closing at the end of this school year.

Bishop Donahue's track team consists of 10 athletes; 4 of them are state qualifiers. It’s a bittersweet moment for the athletes as they prepare for the meet.

“It's exciting, but it's also sad at the same time,” said Tessa Bauer. “It's a lot of pressure for us. We obviously have to do well because this is it.”

Bishop Donahue's remaining students will be integrated into surrounding schools next year. The closure due to low enrollment was announced in January. Their last day of school is May 26.
