Second chance at life: Organ recipient tell his story

Weirton Medical Center is celebrating its annual tradition of recognizing those who are alive thanks to organ donors.

WMC and the Center for Organ Recovery and Education highlighted the story of one man who has had a double lung transplant for more than two years.

Sixty-one-year-old Bill Cornell told his story of receiving the double lung transplant the day after Christmas in 2014. The East Liverpool man said it was a Christmas gift that was a true miracle.

“I believe that my purpose is here, and my second chance at life, is to encourage people to become organ donors because you never know if you may need a life-saving organ or a loved one may be need of an organ someday,” Cornell said.

Cornell said he's eternally grateful to the family of his donor, Cheryl Riffle of Wellsville.
