Oil and gas companies donate to Conotton Creek Trail Committee

Those who use the Conotton Creek Trail in Harrison County will be seeing upgrades to the path, made possible by a pair of nearly $10,000 donations from oil and gas companies.

On Wednesday morning, representatives from Shell presented donation to the trail committee because of future pipeline plans involving the 11.4-mile stretch of Trail that bikers and walkers and runners use year round.

“We piped in for a right of way for the bike trail. It consists of, I think, 152 feet that the pipeline will be bored underneath their trail," Shell representative Bill Thompson said.

Last week, Kinder Morgan also donated money to the trail committee, bringing the total donated by the two companies to $19,200.

The committee is planning on using some of the money to purchase a generator and paint sprayer to seal the numerous covered bridges that are peppered along the trail. It is also planning to build a winterized bathroom for trail goers in the near future.

"I really appreciate what gas and oil has done for Harrison County, and for our little town of Scio,” Trail Chairman Harry Horstman said. “We reap the benefits all the time from having the huge gas plants there and they are very generous. If we work for with them, they work with us, and they've helped us out a lot."
