New grocery store on its way to Cadiz

Nearly a year after the only grocery store in Cadiz closed, a new chain is coming to the Harrison County seat.

Nearly a year after the only grocery store in Cadiz closed, a new chain is coming to the Harrison County seat.

The previous store, Coffy's, closed in February. Since then, a pop-up Amish market opened, but it hasn't fulfilled the needs provided by a full-fledged grocer.

Now New-York based Sander’s Markets is claiming the space.

Workers were doing prep work Tuesday inside the building. They're getting the store ready for an anticipated opening in the first quarter of 2018.

The Sander's Markets brand is expanding into Ohio with four additional stores. The chain already has two in Pennsylvania and one in New York.

Three of the Ohio stores are reportedly going in Cadiz, Alliance and Carrollton. The $3,250,00 for the four stores was confirmed by Cadiz Community Improvement Corporation President Mike Sliva.

He says the four stores that Sander's Markets is buying are Thornes Company Stores, which held the Coffy's brand.
