Man facing child neglect charges in Wheeling
WHEELING, W.Va. —
A Wheeling man is facing serious charges after police say he left drugs and drug paraphernalia around two young children.
Joseph Grampa has already been convicted of child abuse for a previous incident and has a history of drug abuse and charges.
Grampa was arraigned Tuesday morning by Ohio County Magistrate Joe Roxby on child neglect charges, and he is in the northern regional jail on 10,000 bond.
Ohio County Sheriff’s deputies say Grampa was babysitting two kids – ages 9 and 11 -- while he was high on prescription pills at a home on Orchard Lane in Bethlehem on Monday.
Officers say they found white powder cut into lines on tables, a dinner plate full of a white powdery substance and several pieces of drug paraphernalia.
The two children told officers they were afraid of Grampa after he allegedly grabbed them by their hair and threw them to the ground.
The children were given to their mother and Child Protective Services is investigating.
