Man accused of assaulting his girlfriend in court turns down plea deal

Sean Cox, 23, of Pittsburgh, appeared before Judge Michelle Miller as he was offered a plea deal for a felonious assault charge. The deal was a sentence of 3 years in prison.

A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend in court during a hearing for a protection order has turned down a plea deal.

Sean Cox, 23, of Pittsburgh, appeared before Judge Michelle Miller as he was offered a plea deal for a felonious assault charge. The deal was a sentence of 3 years in prison.

"That was our recommendation,” Prosecutor Stephen Lamatrice said. β€œIt seems Mr. Cox is not ready to accept that at this time, which is his right to do so. So I'll let (defense counsel) Aaron (miller) address those issues with this case will proceed today. It will be presented on the Sept. 13 for the grand jury."

Miller said he would be seeking Cox's medical records ahead of the grand jury next week.
