Local sheriff is warning residents to be cautious of scheme
HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio —
The Harrison County Sheriff's Department received a call Thursday from a man just outside of Cadiz.
He said a few men, who claimed they were from Pennsylvania, offered to asphalt his driveway for a discounted price.
After never hearing a price, and the men wanting to get to work, the Harrison County man asked the workers to leave.
He realized the workers were scheming to get more money and he called the sheriff's department to let them know.
Sheriff Joe Myers is warning others to be careful of anyone offering discounted services.
“We've ran into this - these people before - these entrepreneurs that came around and offered to sell blacktop at a discounted rate because they have it left on their truck,” said Myers. “So I just want everyone to be mindful of that because we are in the heated season when it's a good time to lay asphalt. And these people understand that."
The sheriff's department reminds people to get a license plate number or any other information you can to alert the authorities.
They say to always check the better business bureau for reputable companies.
