Local couple welcomes New Year's baby
New Year's Day 2018 was just a little more special for one couple who had a baby girl at Trinity Hospital West in Steubenville.
Brian Lafond and Dana Vause welcomed baby Amelia into the world at 1:39 Monday morning. The couple was expecting Amelia Jan. 8, but stranger things have happened. In fact, dana named her baby Amelia in part because of the popular Netflix show, “Stranger Things.”
"I was watching 'Stranger Things' with my daughter Ariana, and the little girl, they call her 'El,' and I thought that was really cute, and I wanted a name that I could call my baby 'El’,” Vaus said. “Well, I decided to go with Amelia instead of Elmelia because Ariana’s starts with an ‘A’, and I wanted her name to start with an ‘A’ as well."
Lafond said this day makes her birthday special.
"She'll have something to always remember her birth by, as a lot of people just have their birthdate, and now everybody will be waiting for her birthday the next year,” Lafond said.
After an overnight stay, Amelia will join her 9-year-old sister at home.
