Local committee makes three donations to people and charities in need
BROOKE COUNTY, W. Va. —
Three special donations were made at the Follansbee City Council meeting following the city’s Light Up Night Monday evening.
Committee members from the Christmas in the Park event made a generous donation to three recipients.
Kathy Santora and Bill Secrist started the tradition years ago. After the annual Light Up Night celebration, the two and their team of volunteers shed some light to people and charities in need.
This year, three checks were presented during Monday night’s council meeting. The first to the Reach Kitchen, the next to Anderson Children’s Home, and the last to an 11-year-old girl named Willow from Wellsburg who is suffering from CMT.
"We, the committee, each year have a goal to help others and bring some happiness at Christmas time," Kathy said.
The donations come from the money they raise from the Christmas in the Park celebration from October
This year, they were able to donate more money than ever before. Each card that was handed out had a total of $2,500 inside.
They said they hope to continue the tradition for many years to come.
