Historic Fort Steuben is a hot spot for tourism in Jefferson County. On Wednesday night, a celebration was held to thank those who support it.

City and county leaders gathered in Steubenville for the annual Historic Fort Steuben dinner and membership meeting. It's a night to celebrate successes including a major expansion to the Nutcracker Village and Advent Market.

There were also physical improvements to the fort, including indoor ramps and a new phone system. Members are looking forward to what's to come in the year ahead.

“An exhibit on the Ohio River Boats, we're going to be expanding our constitution exhibit in September, and we're working on the Nutcracker Village for 2017,” said Judy Bratten, Historic Fort Steuben executive director.

Fundraising was part of the event as well with a Chinese auction featuring items donated by area businesses.

The fort operates on a budget of about $120,000 a year. All of that is raised through private donations and grants.
