Fire crews battle early morning house fire in Wheeling

Wheeling Firefighters were on the scene of an early morning house fire on Thursday.

The blaze sparked at a vacant home at 91 National Road. The call came in just before 4 a.m., and it took crews a few hours to extinguish the fire.

Officials say the call came from a driver passing by on National Road.

“A man was driving his car up National Road here and saw the fire and called 911 and the Good Samaratain himself was able to knock on the door here and alert the neighbors and get them out of the house,” said Wheeling Fire Department Public Information Officer Philip Stahl. “And there was no damage to either of the homes. So we were very happy we were able to save both the homes next to the burning house."

The house that caught fire was vacant, and is a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
