Diocese of Steubenville thanks supporters
BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —
The Diocese of Steubenville has been holding dinners throughout Ohio as they thank those who make what they do possible. They gathered supporters and met in Belmont County Thursday.
It was a night of gratitude at Undo's in St. Clairsville, as the Diocese of Steubenville extended a rich thank-you to its supporters.
"There's so many good things that are done, and it begins with the people, it begins with the homes, it begins with the neighborhoods,” said Bishop Jeffrey Monforton. “This is a gesture on behalf of the Diocese of gratitude."
The money raised by supporters each year benefits the work of the Diocese. They are currently focusing on a five-year plan, where big part of it is reaching the youth.
The Diocese holds an annual youth conference in Marietta and a junior high conference in St. Clairsville.
Monforton said he's looking to engage younger generations.
"Take a look at our schools. Take a look at our youth and young adults,” Monforton said. “How do we draw them into the church? How do they become more active in the church?"
Other facets of the plan focus on maintenance, like the upkeep of its 57 parishes.
Monforton said the church is striving to stay up to date, and he's thankful for the support received year after year.
"Often times, the finances that are raised help pitch that roof or helps to put in new doors or new windows, fix that boiler perhaps. Giving the parishes a chance to survive and to thrive,” Monforton said.
The final dinner will be held in Mingo Junction Monday.
