Commissioners declare opioid addiction a public nuisance in Jefferson County

On Thursday, the Jefferson County commissioners signed a resolution, declaring opioid addiction a public nuisance in the county.

You see it on the news almost every day, another life ruined by opioid addiction.

On Thursday, the Jefferson County commissioners signed a resolution, declaring opioid addiction a public nuisance in the county.

County officials are constantly working on ways to attack the problem, and litigation for all involved is an option.

"The unique thing about the approach that we're taking it addresses everything,” Commissioner Tom Gentile said. “It doesn't just single out the manufacturer or the wholesaler, it really looks at the entire chain from how the options got to the street, all the way from the manufacturer to the wholesaler to doctors to the pharmacies. It’s the whole chain."

According to Gentile, the Opioid Crisis is having an impact on businesses in Jefferson County because employers are having a tough time finding enough help. Many potential workers can't pass a drug test.
